How Are You?
LIFE DURING COVID-19 ISOLATION
Here's a thought. Anyone in our John Newman Mission Community can participate in this blog. Of course, it is totally your choice to comment or just to read.
This blog will give us an opportunity to connect with each other, offering prayers, giving helpful tips, news and other friendly suggestions. Being a community filled with faith, hope and helpful activities, this blog should be a wealth of information.
Again -- this is open to anyone in the community. And you can add photos if you like.
When your commentary is ready, just click on the Publish button near the top. If you are adding a comment to an article on the blog, scroll down and press the Publish button.

Father Duke has been so helpful in keeping us hopeful and connected. Thank you Joanne for leading this Zoom connection! |
I would like to thank Joanne Montante for organizing the Sunday masses using the Zoom software. If you are not able to connect using the link that is provided (and that includes me), just follow these steps: Go to Zoom.com. Click on "Join a Meeting". Then enter the meeting ID number and the JNMC password. This procedure has worked for me.
ReplyDeleteChecking a report about not being able to add photos. Looks like the blog may only allow this in the original post by the original blogger. --- Jack

Father Joncas, composer of On Eagle’s Wings some years ago, has composed a new hymn for the time of Covid-19. He has given permission for its use into 2021 free of charge. The link tells more about this 2020 hymn of consolation and strength and explains how to get the words and tune for it. The sisters in WNY have learned the refrain and a cantor sings the verses at times of prayer.
Thank you, Sister Fran, for sharing this with us.
Hoping everyone is doing well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for giving those additional instructions, Jack. Once everyone gets familiar with zoom, its really very easy.
ReplyDeleteI am so thankful that we have so many ways to connect with each other - texting, e-mailing, phone and zoom video! it's great.
I have set up a small altar with a cross with candles and a small statue of Mary holding Jesus after he was taken down from the cross. It is where I am saying my prayers each day. I find it very comforting. I'll attach a picture. Other than that, I have been staying home. My family does not want me venturing out to shop, so they pick up anything I need from the grocery store. I hope everyone is doing well while at home. It seems I've been on my own for such a long time, that it doesn't bother me to be quarantined. I do miss seeing everyone and the wonderful hugs, though! God's Blessings to all.

DeleteJack, I wrote a post but it seems to have disappeared. I did not see a publish sign. I just realized you have to sign in your google account. I will rewrite my blog
ReplyDeleteSo as I was saying, I really appreciate the technology of Zoom that makes it possible to share the Mass. I also appreciate the daily prayers and readings that Dave sends out.
ReplyDeleteThis isolation seems like forever. I have become much more aware of being alone. There is no live body there to talk to, or to share impromptu thoughts. And also I miss the physical presence of a hug or a hand on your arm indicating understanding and caring. While I am on the phone a lot, it doesn’t always substitute. So, I am anxious for this to end so I can again see my family and my church family.
I miss you all and pray that everyone stays healthy.
Hi Barbara -- Thanks for logging on to the blog and for your entry. Yes, this period of isolation is very difficult. Those that have connections should appreciate them during this prolonged period. We tried something last weekend that was helpful. We are not in "hard quarantine" but we have been keeping close to home and practicing safe separation with others outside the home. So we decided to go on a long hike in a park with Anne and Bob and the kids. We walked separately, but close enough to talk, show expressions and laugh about silly things. Just the fresh air, and the "loose connection" with others was helpful.
Delete.... Yes, I do miss the family and the meals together, and our faith community being together. Let us continue our safe practices and our prayers with and for each other. Be prayerful and be careful. I like a sign I saw at Sacred Heart Shrine near us: Don't count the days .... Make the days count. I like that.
